Raymond Smith-Byrd : PRESIDENT

Raymond Smith-Byrd

PRESIDENT

Ray Smith-Byrd is an R&D Cereal Process Engineer at General Mills. He was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Ray graduated from the University of Michigan where he acquired his B.S.E in Industrial and Operations Engineering. Ray has extensive NSBE experience from his home chapter (NSBE-UM) and this is Ray’s second consecutive term as NSBE-TCPC Chapter President. 

Ray’s pastimes include: mentoring in the Jack and Jill Rites of Passage Program, serving his community as a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Epsilon Rho Graduate Chapter, and he’s also a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer with passion for health and fitness in the black community.

Leonard Louis : VICE PRESIDENT

Leonard Louis

VICE PRESIDENT

Leonard Louis is a Quality Manager for General Mills. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering and is a certified Quality Engineer through ASQ. This year is Leonard’s third term on the NSBE-TCPC Executive Board serving the prior two years as Secretary. 

Leonard loves the NSBE mission and the work being done to elevate black youth into STEM fields. He strongly believes “as we move forward in our careers, it is very important that we reach back and push the next generation forward. The work that NSBE is doing is moving the dial forward.” Leonard is looking forward to another great year for NSBE-TCPC.

Kevin Stockard : SECRETARY

Kevin Stockard

SECRETARY

Kevin Stockard was born in Toledo, Ohio. For undergrad, he attended The Ohio State University where he acquired his B.S. in Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering. He also attended Washington University, St. Louis, where he acquired his M.A. in Mathematics and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He;s currently working at Abbott as a Principal Clinical Development Specialist for artificial heart valves. His personal interests include: cycling, reading, graphite and charcoal portrait drawing, and working out.

Tamar Boone : Programs Chair

Programs Chair

Tamar Boone is currently a Product Design Engineer at Cummins Power Systems. Tamar was born in Baltimore, MD, and went to college at New York University (NYU) where he studied Mechanical Engineering. He’s been a part of NSBE since my freshman year of college. Tamar has been a part of NSBE-TCPC since coming to Minneapolis and has served on the board previously as the PCI chair. He’s currently the chapter's Program's Chair, and can't wait to serve the chapter this year by bringing helpful and engaging programming that everyone can participate in.

Nia Allen : PARLIAMENTARIAN

Nia Allen

PARLIAMENTARIAN

Nia Allen is a 2018 graduate of Tuskegee University where she obtained her BS in Aerospace Science Engineering with university honors. She currently works for the Boeing Company as a Systems Engineer in their Defense, Space, and Security business unit. Nia is also completing her MS in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics - Aerospace Systems at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities where she is set to defend October 2020.

Michael Martin : TREASURER

Michael Martin

TREASURER

Michael Martin hails from the beautiful and sunny Los Angeles, California. He received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Georgetown University in 2017. Michael is currently an IT analyst at General Mills working on the Box Tops for Education app. This year, Michael will be serving in his first ever NSBE-TCPC leadership role as the Chapter Treasurer.

Asma will serve as the Corporate Relations Chair for 2020-2021. She’s a Sustaining Engineer at Seagate Technology and a part time Mechanical Engineering PhD student at the University of Minnesota.

Najmo Mohamed Aden

TORCH CHAIR

Najmo Aden attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities where she earned her undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering. Najmo currently works at Honeywell as a Hardware Engineer. Her hobbies include playing competitive games/sports, reading mystery books, watching Netflix, and nap sessions with her cat, Shiloh.

Meskerem Terega

Meskerem Terega was born and raised in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota where she acquired her undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering. Meskerem is currently a Product Compliance Engineer at Cummins, Inc. She will be serving her community as the NSBE-TCPC College Initiative Chair for 2020-2021. Her hobbies include singing church hymns and spending time with friends.

Wanjau Waithaka

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CHAIR

Wanjau Waithaka is from Nairobi, Kenya. He earned his Masters of Science in Electrical Engineer from Texas A&M University Kingsville. Wanjau is currently an Electrical Engineer working with Cummins, Inc. in the R&D department. His passion for professional development related activities led him to run for his current NSBE position with the intention of creating opportunities for the NSBE-TCPC members to excel professionally. Wanjau enjoys volunteering in community-led events such as mentoring students in STEM activities within Cummins and participating as a judge in the SEEK program. His hobbies include travelling, hiking and playing soccer.

Joy Aso : PRE-COLLEGIATE CHAIR

Joy Aso

PRE-COLLEGIATE CHAIR

Joy Aso is the current Pre-Collegiate Initiative Chair for the 2020-2021 term. She currently works on designing and running human research trials for new heart failure devices. Born and raised in Rhode Island, Joy moved to Minneapolis after obtaining her Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University. While at Brown, Joy was heavily involved in Brown's NSBE chapter and directed an all girls summer engineering camp for inner city women titled, Spira, through Brown University's School of Engineering. Joy enjoys reading, dancing, and laughing way too much.
